WHERE TO START?

Congratulations! You've entered the wonderful world of embroidery, and we at Sewing & Embroidery Warehouse are here to help!

We have a variety of supplies to help you get started on your journey, from thread to stabilizer, to hoops and more, we've got you covered!

WHAT DO I NEED TO START DOING EMBROIDERY?

While the specifics vary from user to user, the basic supplies you need to start are:

  • EMBROIDERY BACKING
  • EMBROIDERY THREAD
  • ADHESIVE SPRAY
  • BOBBIN THREAD

EMBROIDERY BACKING:

In order to embroider onto fabric, you must have a "backing", also known as stabilizer. It stabilizes your fabric during the embroidery process, that you can then either tear away, or cut away!

How do I know what backing to use?
While this varies from project to project, the general rule of thumb is tearaway stabilizer is built for non-stretch materials such as quilting cotton, while cutaway stabilizer is built for items that stretch (such as sweaters, and t-shirts!) The weight of your stabilizer must reflect the fabric it's being used with (e.g: Heavy stabilizer for heavier sweatshirts).

EMBROIDERY THREAD:

Embroidery thread is different than your usual sewing thread, so you've got to stock up! There are plenty of different types available, but we've got you covered with the widely popular Isacord Thread from Amman Group!

We also stock pre-wound bobbins from Amman Group, which are highly convenient and can be used for a variety of projects! Feel free to purchase 12, or 144, whatever you need!

PLEASE NOTE: The pre-wound bobbins MUST be used with a bobbin weight if you are planning to use them for your home embroidery machine. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to inquire and we will get back to you as soon as possible!

ADHESIVE SPRAY:

Adhesive spray is used to temporarily adhere your fabric to the stabilizer! We do not offer our Adhesive Sprays online, but if you're stopping by in person, feel free to ask about what we have available!

If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please feel free to inquire here for more information, as we'd be happy to help!
